Which AccuFab 3D printer is right for your dental lab?

Shining 3D makes four dental 3D printers. They all carry the AccuFab name, but they're built for different labs, different budgets, and different caseloads. Picking the wrong one means either overpaying for features you won't use or running into limits six months in.

Here's how to tell them apart.

Who should buy which printer

You print models and guides, and you want the lowest entry cost

Go with the AccuFab-L4K. At $3,499 it's the cheapest in the lineup, but it has the large build platform (192x120mm), which means you can batch multiple models in one print. 4K resolution at +/-50um accuracy is more than enough for models, surgical guides, and orthodontic appliances. You can also add the optional small platform later if you need it for detailed single-unit work.

The AccuFab-L4D at $3,999 is almost identical but comes with only the small platform (70x70mm). It makes sense if you're doing mostly single-unit or small-batch work and don't need the large print area. The L4D and L4K share the same 4K optical engine, and their platforms are interchangeable, so you can always buy the other platform size later.

You run a busy lab and need throughput

The AccuFab-CEL at $7,499 is the production workhorse. It has the highest resolution in the lineup (5760x3600), cabin environment control that auto-heats to 27C for consistent results regardless of room temperature, NFC resin tanks that automatically load the correct print parameters, and dual build platforms (large and small) included out of the box.

Print times on the CEL at 100um layer thickness: 14 minutes for orthodontic models, 11 minutes for crown and bridge, 20 minutes for surgical guides. At 100mm/h max speed, it's twice as fast as the L4K/L4D.

The cabin control is the feature that separates the CEL from everything below it. Resin viscosity changes with temperature. If your lab isn't climate-controlled year-round, print consistency suffers. The CEL handles that internally.

You do prosthetics, permanent crowns, or ceramic-filled resins

The AccuFab-F1 at $9,999 is the specialist. It has the best accuracy in the lineup (+/-25um), the fastest max speed (150mm/h), and a dual heating system that heats both the build platform and the resin tray. That dual heating is what makes it handle high-viscosity, ceramic-containing materials (like permanent crown resins) that other printers struggle with.

The tradeoff: the F1 has the smallest build volume (144x81x75mm) and only one platform size. It's built for precision, not volume. If you're printing 30 models a day, this isn't the right machine. If you're printing permanent restorations where 25-micron accuracy matters, this is the one.

The F1 also has intelligent residue sensing, which monitors the resin tray in real time and alerts you if a print failed or left debris that could ruin the next job.

Features that matter (and ones that don't)

HyperClear resin tank

Available on the CEL and F1 only. It's a higher-clarity tank film that reduces light scattering during exposure. The practical benefit is better detail reproduction on small features and longer tank life. The L4D/L4K use standard tanks, which work fine for models and guides but show their limits on detailed prosthetic work.

NFC resin tanks

CEL only. You drop in a tank, the printer reads the NFC chip, and it loads the correct exposure settings automatically. No manual parameter selection, no risk of running the wrong profile. In a multi-operator lab where different people load different resins, this prevents errors.

Software: AccuWare

All four printers use AccuWare, which is free. It includes AI-assisted auto support generation, auto layout, auto slicing, and built-in modules for splints (CreSplint), indirect bonding trays (CreIBT), temporary crowns (CreTemp), and basic design (AccuDesign). Dental Cloud integration lets you monitor and control prints remotely.

Post-processing compatibility

All four printers are compatible with the Shining 3D FabWash (automated washing, $2,799) and FabCure 2 (UV curing, $1,099). The F1 requires an adaptor for the FabWash due to its different platform design. The others work directly.
