Amber Mill DIRECT C14: plan a mill-and-polish restoration workflow
Share
Amber Mill DIRECT removes a separate crystallization firing step from the restoration workflow. HASS supplies this lithium disilicate glass-ceramic material for milling and polishing, with optional stain and glaze processing when the case calls for further characterization. It is now available at Dentcore as a C14 five-pack.
For a practice that already mills restorations, the useful purchase question is where DIRECT fits into the existing appointment. Review case selection, the machine's material setup and finishing before putting a new block into routine production.

What does DIRECT change?
HASS describes a mill-and-polish route without crystallization. You still need the scan, restoration design, milling, finishing and clinical delivery steps. Optional stain and glaze work is a separate finishing choice. A shorter processing sequence does not establish a guaranteed appointment length for your practice.
On a trial case, record hands-on time separately from machine time. Include block setup, sprue removal and polishing in the comparison. This gives your team a useful view of the work that remains after the firing step is removed.
Keep DIRECT separate from ordinary Amber Mill
Dentcore also carries Amber Mill C14 blocks. The shared family name and C14 label do not make the processing programs interchangeable. Keep DIRECT identified by its full name in your storage, material library and work instructions.
Use the DIRECT documentation supplied with the material. A saved crystallization program for ordinary Amber Mill is not the starting point for a DIRECT mill-and-polish case. If the team uses both materials, label the shelves and document which material was selected in the case record.
Choose the C14 shade and translucency
The Dentcore listing has HT+, HT and MT translucency options. Shade choices are A1, A2, A3, A3.5, B1, B2, C2, D2, W1 and W2. C14 measures 14 x 12 x 18 mm. Each box contains five blocks of the selected shade and translucency; it is not an assortment.
Write the complete selection on the order rather than only the shade. Check the available milling envelope in the CAM setup and the planned position of the restoration within the block. Keep a record of the selected translucency and finishing route when the team reviews the result, so a later order can reproduce the same material choice.
Match the case to the current instructions
The June 15, 2026 DIRECT instructions list veneers, inlays, onlays, partial crowns and single crowns. They exclude bridges, very deep subgingival preparations, bruxism and uses outside the stated indications. The treating dental professional should select the material for the individual case.
Before the first job, have the machine supplier confirm the DIRECT material setup, block attachment and milling workflow for your equipment. Keep the current HASS finishing instructions at the workstation. Use those instructions for optional characterization instead of transferring a schedule from another ceramic.
Prepare the team before the first appointment
Assign one person to check the block order and one to review the finished trial restoration. Note any issue at the step where it occurred: material selection, nesting, milling or finishing. A useful trial ends with a repeatable work instruction and a clear stock list for the next case.
For the equipment side, read our wet and dry milling overview and milling bur selection guide. Machine and tool selection still need to match the specific material workflow.
