vhf milling bur selection: read the code before ordering
Share
Order a replacement vhf milling bur by its complete tool code, the material you will machine and the exact mill model. A shared diameter or a similar product photo is not enough to identify the replacement. Keep the suffix: Z100-R2D-40 and a tool ending in -35 are different items.
The vhf burs product page has machine, material and tool-code selections. Use those selections to locate a candidate, then match the final code to the tool specified for your machine and CAM job. A group containing several machines does not establish that every material and tool combination works on every machine in that group.
Read a vhf tool code without losing the details
Take Z100-R2D-40 as an example. vhf identifies it as a diamond-coated zirconia radius cutter with a 1.0 mm cutting diameter and a 40 mm overall length. The code separates these properties:
| Code element | Meaning in this example | Ordering check |
|---|---|---|
| Z | Zirconia material family | Match the material being machined. |
| 100 | 1.0 mm cutting diameter | Do not confuse cutting diameter with shank diameter. |
| R | Rounded cutting profile | Keep the specified geometry. |
| 2 | Two cutting teeth | Copy the full number and letter sequence. |
| D | Diamond coating | Check whether the specified code includes D. |
| 40 | 40 mm overall length | Keep the length suffix when ordering. |
The manufacturer's code key also distinguishes P for plastics and wax, C for composites and G for glass ceramics. It separates rounded, flat and torus geometries. These labels help identify a tool; they do not replace a current machine-specific tool list.
Match length and machine before choosing a coating
vhf lists both 35 mm and 40 mm zirconia tools. For example, its Z200-R3D-35 listing specifies a 2.0 mm cutting diameter and 35 mm length, while Z100-R2D-40 has a 1.0 mm cutting diameter and 40 mm length. Both are diamond-coated zirconia tools, but they are not interchangeable on that basis.
When replacing a tool, photograph the full code on its packaging and compare it with the machine documentation. If the old tool was already an uncertain substitute, start with the required tool list rather than copying that substitute. Include the exact machine designation, including a plus sign or edition name, in your request.
Do not apply a blanket rule that all vhf burs have the same maximum length or fit every vhf mill. The catalog includes different tool families and special geometries. Confirm the particular tool and machine pairing before ordering.
Keep roughing, finishing and grinding separate
A roughing tool and a fine finishing tool perform different parts of the job. vhf describes its larger radius cutters as roughing tools and smaller diameters as tools for finer detail. Glass-ceramic grinding tools form another category. Buying a smaller diameter does not, by itself, improve the whole workflow.
Use the tool sequence required by the selected CAM strategy. Check every position needed for the job before placing a replenishment order. Replacing only the visibly worn tool can leave another required position unavailable when production begins.
For E-series workflows, check the airtool requirement separately. vhf describes airtools for roughing on E4 and E5, with standard tools used for finer finishing. Confirm the exact machine-specific airtool code; a store option labelled for E5 should not be assumed suitable for E4.
Build a repeatable reorder record
Keep one short record for each tool position:
- The full machine model and the material used for that job.
- The manufacturer's complete tool code, including coating and length characters.
- The matching Dentcore option and quantity to reorder.
- The CAM software version and tool-list reference used to confirm the choice.
If you are changing materials or updating software, review the tool list again instead of automatically repeating the previous order. Our vhf software planning guide covers the separate version and workflow questions.
To select a replacement, open the current vhf bur options and compare the complete code before adding it to your order. If the match is unclear, send Dentcore the code and machine model for a configuration check. This guide does not promise a fixed number of restorations per bur or a specific machining result.
Specifications and availability can change. Confirm the selected tool, machine and current software requirements before ordering. Follow the manufacturer's operating and maintenance instructions.
