Aidite 3D Pro Zir Ultra Zirconia Disc Guide

The 3D Pro Zir Ultra is Aidite's esthetic, fast-sintering multilayer disc. Aidite positions it where speed and anterior esthetics have to coexist: a disc you can mill, sinter in a couple of hours, and seat the same day, without giving up the look you want on a front tooth.

What sets it apart from Aidite's other discs is a dual-yttria gradient. The cervical zone is built from 4Y zirconia for strength, and the incisal zone from 5Y zirconia for translucency, with a smooth transition between them. Here is what that buys you, and where it does and does not fit.

Why translucency and strength both matter here

Every zirconia disc sits somewhere on a trade-off between strength and translucency. Yttria, the stabilizer added to the zirconia powder, controls where it lands. More yttria (5Y) grows larger, more light-transmitting crystals, so the material looks more like natural enamel but bends more easily. Less yttria (3Y-4Y) keeps the crystals small and the material tougher, but more opaque. That is why a disc built for front-tooth esthetics is rarely the same disc you would trust across a long posterior bridge.

Layer structure is the second variable. A single-shade (monolayer) disc has one body color and one property set top to bottom. A multilayer disc is pressed from several powders so that color and translucency change gradually from the cervical zone to the incisal edge, the way a real tooth does. Gradient discs save staining time on anterior work; monolayer discs are simpler and usually cheaper for high-volume posterior cases.

The Ultra's answer to that trade-off is to not pick one. The 57% translucent 5Y enamel zone gives you the light behavior an anterior crown needs, while the 4Y cervical zone keeps the framework strong enough for bridge work. That layered design is why Aidite rates it for spans most high-translucency discs would not be trusted with.

Where it fits

Aidite recommends the Ultra for anterior and posterior full crowns and bridges, screw-retained bridges, and full-arch long bridges, and lists it as suitable up to 14 units. Inlays, onlays, and veneers are workable. The one place Aidite flags caution is cutback crowns and copings: grinding the incisal layer away to layer porcelain defeats the point of the built-in gradient and can compromise the esthetics you bought the disc for.

The other half of the pitch is throughput. Paired with Aidite's CSF-400 Pro furnace, a single crown sinters in about two hours, which is what makes same-day delivery realistic rather than aspirational.
