Medit iE and Medit Link cloud storage: plan capacity and case access
Share
Include cloud storage in your Medit iE setup discussion. Choose capacity around the files your practice keeps and how the team needs to access them.

We recommend reviewing the account's current usage before choosing a storage plan. If you already use Medit Link, that gives you a practical starting point. If this is your first scanner, plan an early usage review after onboarding rather than guessing a fixed number of cases per gigabyte.
Check what the account includes
Medit's Membership guide, updated September 29, describes a free 2 GB plan and a paid 10 TB plan. Result files and attachments use cloud space; raw data is excluded from the displayed storage calculation. Manage Plan and Plan Details show active plans and their terms.
Review the actual account before relying on a promotion or another practice's screenshot. Confirm which plan is active, whether access has an expiry date and what happens at renewal. Record who is responsible for reviewing that information. A hardware purchase and a cloud plan are separate items to check.
Existing Medit account
Review current usage before adding the iE workload.
New Medit account
Schedule a usage review after the team starts scanning.
Build a capacity estimate from your own usage
Choose a representative period and record the change in used storage along with the number and type of cases added. Note unusually large attachments or one-off imports. Repeat the observation before treating it as a typical rate.
For a simple planning estimate, divide remaining capacity by the observed monthly increase. Label the result as an estimate and revisit it when the case mix changes. If files were removed during the period, the net change alone will understate how much new material was added. Keep that limitation with the calculation.
Define case access separately from capacity
Ask your practice's IT lead to document how staff should access a case, who manages permissions and how the practice would retrieve required records if the usual workstation were unavailable. Test that process with a training case that contains no patient identifiers.
Storage capacity by itself does not establish a complete backup or record-retention plan. Have the responsible practice personnel set those requirements and verify the chosen process. Avoid removing clinical records simply to free space without following the practice's approved policy.
Add storage to the second-scanner checklist
When adding iE to an existing practice, review the account with the person responsible for both scanners. Ask whether the new station changes case volume, attachment use or the number of staff who need access. Agree on who will watch usage and when it should be reviewed again.
Our iE second-scanner guide covers rooms and accounts. For the purchase budget, see iE pricing and optional software. Bring your current account plan to the Dentcore consultation so the quote discussion reflects what you already have.
