Adding Medit iE as a second scanner: rooms, accounts and workflow
Share
Medit iE can be added as a second scanner to an existing Medit practice using the same Medit Link account. Your case data and laboratory connections can stay together while you add another place to scan.

The purchase makes the most sense when you can name the problem the additional unit will solve. A busy second room, overlapping appointments or a shared scanner that spends too much time moving between operators are different situations. Each calls for a different room setup and a clear plan for who will use the new unit.
Find the bottleneck before adding hardware
Review a typical week with the team. Note when someone waits for the scanner, where the current unit is located and whether the delay comes from the scanner, the computer or the availability of a trained operator. If one shared computer remains the bottleneck, adding a handpiece alone will leave part of the problem in place.
For a second room, evaluate the whole workstation. The iE is wired and has a detachable 2 m cable. Check the path between the chair and the proposed computer, screen visibility and a suitable handpiece position. Budget for a compatible computer when the two rooms need to work independently.
Keep the account and case organization consistent
Medit's official iE FAQ confirms that an existing user can add iE under the same Medit Link account. This supports a shared case environment rather than requiring the practice to start again with a separate collection of laboratory connections.
Before registration, have the practice administrator confirm the correct account and group. Follow your existing staff-access policy and check who is responsible for case review and lab messages. At training, create a test case in the intended workflow and verify that the responsible staff member can find it and send it to the correct laboratory.

Match each scanner to the work it will perform
iE includes everyday case creation, scanning and laboratory transfer. A practice with an i900 series scanner can evaluate iE for additional scan-and-send capacity while retaining the i900 for workflows that require it.
That distinction matters for Medit SmartX and Medit Link Express. Current Medit documentation places those workflows with the i900 series; adding iE to the same account does not give its hardware the same capabilities. Demonstrate the intended case types on each model before assigning rooms or appointments around the new setup.
Check software access on the actual configuration
Account continuity does not settle every licensing question. Realtime Intelligence is a separate subscription for iE, and optional Medit Apps have their own access conditions. Ask for the entitlement that applies to the proposed scanner and registered group, including any existing devices the practice already owns.
Keep a short list of the software each operator needs and confirm that it works on the proposed computer. Do not assume that the applications used on one workstation will all be available on another operating system or under another staff account.
Make the second unit useful on the first week
Assign a primary operator for the new station and a person responsible for checking lab messages. Plan supported tips, cleaning and sterilization under the current instructions for use. Check the included accessories and service terms in the quote, especially if the second unit is intended to cover an interruption at the first station.
After installation, record whether the new station actually reduces waiting for your team. Keep those observations separate from claims about clinical results or financial return. A second scanner is an operational choice; its value depends on the work the practice can put through it.
