Medit iE computer requirements: choosing a Windows or Mac workstation

Choose the Medit iE computer as part of the scanner purchase. Check the exact configuration, the connection and the room layout before deciding whether to reuse a laptop.

A processor family name on a sales listing is not a complete specification. Ask for the model number, installed memory and graphics configuration in writing. Keep that information with your scanner quote so the proposed computer can be checked against the current requirements.

Use the recommended specification as your starting point

Medit's system-requirements page, updated September 21, lists recommended memory of 32 GB for Windows and 24 GB for macOS; its minimum is 16 GB on either system. The Windows recommendations include an NVIDIA RTX 4060 with at least 8 GB VRAM. AMD Radeon graphics are not supported. Compare the exact processor and operating system with the full current requirements.

Medit warns that fanless MacBook Air models may lose performance because of heat. Its iE brochure lists Windows and Mac compatibility and a USB 3.1 Gen 1 connection with Power Delivery. Confirm the proposed iE connection with your supplier; a USB-C-shaped socket alone does not establish suitability.

Reusing a computer

Check the installed hardware and test the intended workload.

Evaluate an existing laptop before replacing it

Ask your IT contact to record the machine's exact specifications and the other software it normally runs. Then arrange a demonstration using the proposed setup. Look at scan capture, case review and the handoff you expect to use. A brief demonstration on a different computer leaves the suitability of your own machine unanswered.

During the demonstration, use the screen size and chair position planned for daily work. Can the operator read the scan comfortably? Can another team member review the case without moving the computer? If staff must keep repositioning the laptop, resolve the physical setup before accepting it.

Compare complete workstation quotes

When comparing a scanner-only configuration with a computer package, request the precise computer model and specification. Note who supplies the computer and who handles support for it. Ask whether the quoted configuration includes the items needed for the intended connection and workstation position.

We recommend choosing one person to own the workstation checklist. That person can coordinate the supplier's hardware requirements with the practice's IT standards and arrange installation at a time when the team can test the setup. This makes the decision easier to revisit if the computer model changes before delivery.

Match the workstation to the room plan

A scanner shared between rooms needs a different practical plan from a dedicated station. Walk the intended route with the team and identify where the computer, cable and handpiece will sit. Include cleaning access and screen visibility in that review, using the manufacturer's handling instructions.
