What the numbers mean
Two numbers do most of the work on the spec sheet. First is the ceramic filler load, over 55%, which is the line between a permanent ceramic-resin crown material and the softer stuff you print temporaries from. Second is the reported flexural strength near 200 MPa, which is genuinely strong for a printable resin and is the reason LumiCera CB200 gets used on definitive single units instead of provisionals.
It carries FDA Class II 510(k) clearance under K260170, the clearance that lets it stand as a permanent restorative rather than a temporary. Keep one thing in mind: printed ceramic-resin crowns are still earning their long-term track record against milled ceramics. The strength numbers are where case selection starts, not where your clinical judgment stops.

The shades that ship at launch
LumiCera CB200 launches in five VITA shades: BL, A1, A2, B1, and C2. That covers a useful stretch of the VITA classical range, a bleach shade, the common A and B families, one C shade, but it is not the whole guide. Anything outside those five is not a direct match yet, so the question that matters is simple: how often do the cases you would actually print land on BL, A1, A2, B1, or C2?
For a lot of posterior work the honest answer is often enough, because A1 through B1 catch a big share of routine cases. The gap is at the edges. A patient who sits squarely in a darker A3.5, or anywhere in the D family, has no exact LumiCera match yet.
Why launch translucency steers case selection
LumiCera CB200 ships in a low-translucency formulation, and that one fact drives a lot of the case selection. Translucency is what lets a restoration borrow color and light from the tooth underneath, and it is what makes a high-aesthetic anterior crown vanish at the incisal edge. Drop the translucency and the material reads more opaque, more uniform.
That aims the launch material at posterior crowns, where strength and a solid, consistent shade beat translucent layering, and where nobody is studying a molar for incisal character. Single anterior crowns are doable. But a low-translucency material fights you on the high-aesthetic anterior cases that lean on translucency to disappear next to natural teeth. If anterior esthetics are the whole reason you want crowns in-house, the launch formulation is the part to weigh hardest.
The capsule format
LumiCera arrives as a prefilled capsule, not a bottle you pour into an open vat. Nothing to measure, nothing to mix, no tank to clean between cases, which is most of the handling win. The catch is the one every capsule system carries: you save on workflow and waste, not on raw resin price per gram.
Yield is where planning gets real. One capsule prints up to three single crowns, and the chamber takes bridges up to about 1.5 in long, so a capsule is not a one-and-done unit. When you work out how many capsules of each shade to stock, count crowns-per-capsule against your real case rate instead of buying one capsule per case.
How shade selection works chairside
Picking a shade works the way it does for any single-visit restoration, just off a shorter menu. The clinician matches the prep to a VITA shade, then checks it against the five LumiCera carries. If it lands, the matching capsule goes into the Ceramix-Nano and the case prints in that shade. There is no post-print staining step in the launch workflow, so what loads is what you get.
The habit worth building is to lock the shade before the patient is in the chair for the restorative visit, not while they are sitting there. The shade lives in the capsule, so a case that calls for one you do not stock cannot be nudged at the printer. Keep the common shades on hand (A1, A2, B1) and confirm the match ahead of time, and the single-visit promise holds.
