The vhf K5+ is a high-power 5-axis dry mill aimed at labs and practices running dense materials at volume. It pairs the strongest spindle in the range with a large tool pool and tool-free disc fixation, all dry, so it focuses on zirconia, CoCr and other dry materials rather than the full wet-and-dry list.

The K5+ trades the R5's wet flexibility for spindle power and a dry, lower-maintenance workflow. The fifth axis and the dry-only design are the two facts that decide where it fits.

Why the fifth axis matters here

The K5+ runs five simultaneous axes, including a B-axis that tilts the blank ±35°. That angled access is what lets it cut undercuts, angled screw channels and the inside of multi-unit bridges that a 4-axis mill cannot reach. For a dry lab milling large zirconia bridges and frameworks, the fifth axis is what makes those geometries possible.

Dry only, and why that is a deliberate choice

The K5+ is a dry machine. It does not flood the cut with coolant, which means it is built around the materials that mill well dry: zirconia, CoCr, PMMA, wax, composites and model plaster. The benefit of dry-only is a simpler, cleaner workflow with no coolant tank to manage and no wet-side maintenance.

The trade-off is the boundary of the material list. Glass ceramics, which need wet milling to avoid heat damage, are not part of the K5+'s job. A lab that needs both dry zirconia volume and wet glass ceramics is looking at a wet-and-dry machine like the R5 instead, or a second mill.

The most powerful spindle in the range

Higher sustained cutting force matters most in dense zirconia and sintered CoCr frameworks, where a weaker spindle can bog down or stall on heavy cuts. More power means the machine holds its feed rate through hard material instead of slowing, which keeps both throughput and surface quality up on demanding jobs.

Tooling and disc handling

A 16-position automatic changer is backed by a 30-tool active pool, with software managing which tools are loaded for the current jobs. That deep tool set lets the machine run multiple materials and full roughing-to-finishing sequences without stopping for manual swaps.

DIRECTDISC tool-free fixation clamps discs without tools, so switching material discs is fast. On a machine designed for volume across several materials, quick disc changes are a real time saver between jobs.

Where the K5+ fits the vhf lineup
